About First Communion

First Communion is the celebration of a child receiving the sacrament of Jesus at the Lord's Supper!  First communion class is held every year in the SprFirstcommunion2012ing in HOPE Sunday School and celebrated on Maundy Thursday (the first time the disciples received communion.)  By having the class in Sunday School, those who have already celebrated first communion can help review and teach other children!

History of First Communion:
First Communion used to be at confirmation (9th grade) Then First Communion was celebrated at 2nd grade because even a child understands the communion is a gift from Jesus.

First Communion Today:

First Communion is celebrated when the pastor, parent and child are ready. Ages now range from age 4-12.  This guideline recognizes that children, like adults, are ready at different ages!

If you would like your child to officially make their first communion, contact the pastor and fill out the first communion registration card. You can download the registration form here.  Children receive a certificate and recognition in receiving this holy sacrament.
